  The Commonwealth of Virginia to [blank space] of the county of [blank space] Gentlemen Greeting Whereas William Owens by his certain Indenture of Bargain and Sale bearing date the 7th Day of Feruary 1796 hath Conveyed unto David Owens one Hundred and fifty two Acres of of Land Situate Lying and being in the Said County of Pittsylvania and whereas Edith the wife of the said William Owens Cannot Conveniently Travel to the Court of our Said County of Pittsylvania to make acknowledgement of the Said Indenture Now know ye that we trusting in your fidelity and and provident Circumspection in Diligently Examining the said Edith do therefore commission you or any two of you that you personally go to the said Edith and privately and apart from the said William her Husband you Examine her touching her relinquishment of Dower in and to the Land and Premises aforesaid whether she doth the same freely and Voluntarily without his persuasions or threats and Whether she be Willing that the same should be Recorded in our said County Court of Pittsylvania and when you shall have so Examined her and taken her acknowledgment that you Certify the same under your hands and Seals to the Justices of our Said County Court of Pittsylvania returning also then there the said Indenture, which is hereunto Examined and this Writ Witness William Tunstall Clerk of our Said County Court the 29th Day of December 1796 in the ye 21st year of the Commonwealth

In obedience to the above Commission to us directed We did personally go to Edith Owens and Examined her Touching her relinquishment of Dower in and to the Land and Premises Conveyed by the Said Indenture and took her acknowledgment of the same, and do hereby Certify that the said Edith Owens did freely and voluntarily without the persuasions or threats of her said Husband do relinquish her right of Dower in and to the Land and Premises Conveyed by the said Indenture and is willing that the same should be Recorded in our said County Court of Pittsylvania Certified under our hands and Seals this 27th Day of February 1797.
