  In the name of God amen, this [blank space] day of May 1787 eighty seven I Hugh Denum of the County of Surry & State of North Carolina, being at this time of sound mind but in low state of bodily health, do make this my last Will & testament.
And first I resign my Soul to my Creator in hopes of redemption thro the blood of Christ my Redeemer & my body to be decently buried. And as for my worldly estate I dispose of it in the following manner, to wit, To my grand Son John Cleaton I give and bequeath two hundred acres of land on the waters of Flatshole Creek surveyed joining Phill Wilson, And to my granson Hugh Clemons I give and bequeath two hundred acres of land, on the waters of Snow Creek called the roundabout. I give and bequeath to my Son in law Isaac Clemons my negro man Isaac to ? all and what I have already gave to my Son in law Stephen Cleaton and his Son Stephen, And all the residue of my estate real and personal after my burial expenses I give & bequeath to my two daughters Mary Cleaton & Ann Clemons equally to be divided between them.
And I hereby constitute and appoint to two Sons Stephen Cleaton & Isaac Clemons my executors to execute this my will. And I do hereby make null & void all other wills by me heretofore made, conrfirming this to be my last Will & Testament.
     In witness werehof I have hereunto set my hand and fixed my seal the day & year above written in presents of the subscribing witnesses.

North Carolina Surry County November term 1789
Charles McAnnally one of the subscribing witnesses to the foregoing last Will and Testament of Hugh Dennum, made oath that he saw the said Hugh Dennum sign publish & declare the same to be his last Will & testament, that he was of sound disposing mind and memory, and at the same time he saw John Evans & John Linn sign the same as witnesses. And ordered to be recorded . Recorded accordingly John Williams C C
