Benjamin Harrison
Esquire Governor of the Commonwealth Virginia, to all to whom these presents
shall come Greeting Know ye that in Consideration of the Ancient Composition
of two pounds Sterling paid by Isaac
and Adam Clements into the treasury
of this Commonwealth, there is Granted by the said Commonwealth unto the
said Isaac and Adam
Clements Executors of Benjamin
Clements deceased a certain tract or parcel of land Containing three
hundred and seventy five acres by Survey bearing date the fifth day of September
one thousand seven hundred and eighty one lying and being in the County
of Pittsylvania the South side of Staunton River and on bothe sides of Sycamore
creek and Bounded as followeth to wit Beginning at a Spanish oak on the
said River and thence running on the lines of the said
Clements former patent South fifty degrees west twenty poles to a red
oak South forty three degrees west twenty eight poles to a pine South eighty
six degrees west forty two poles to a pine South Twenty one degrees west
forty poles to a pine South twenty degrees west thirty eight poles to a
white oak South thirty degrees west forty three poles crossing a branch
of the road to pointers in the said line and thence along Joshua Allstons
line North eighty five degrees west, two hundred and forty eight poles to
a white oak in the line of the said
Clements old patent again and thence the same south forty seven degrees
west twelve poles to a white oak North thirty five degrees west twenty six
poles to a red oak North nine degrees east eighty two poles to a pine east
ten poles to a red oak North one degrees east sixty poles to Hollaways Corner
pine and thence on his line North two degrees west thirty eight poles to
a hickory on Sycamore creek & thence down the said creek as it Meanders
to Ralph Smiths corner on the said creek and thence new line North thirty
five degrees east seventy five poles to a white oak in the said
Clements old line aforesaid and thence the same North thirty three degrees
east twenty two poles to a hackberry tree on the river aforesaid opposite
the end of Persimmon Island and thence down the said river as it Meanders
to the beginning with its Appurtenances to have and to hold the said tract
or parcel of land with its appurtenances, to the said Isaac
and Adam Clements and their heirs
forever In witness whereof the said Benjamin Harrison Governor of the Commonwealth
of Virginia hath hereunto set his hand and Caused the lesser Seal of the
said Commonwealth to be affixed at Richmond on the first day of September
in the year of our Lord One thousand seven hundred and eighty two, and of
the Commonwealth the seventh
