Johnson Cemetery
It is barely visible
from the busy #403 highway and is located on property at the corner of Johnson
Rd. and the 403 a short distance west of Brantford, Ontario.
I have been told the cemetery is on property that was a land grant to a Johnson
family and had remained in family ownership until quite recently.
The cemetery itself is set quite far off Johnson Road and is fenced off with
concrete posts topped with large metal eye loops through which a very heavy wire
cable has been passed. The grass is neatly cut and at some time, someone has
taken the time to repair damages to broken stones and to place others atop a
concrete pad approximately in the center of the burial grounds. The repairs
appear to be quite old. There is one granite gravemarker and almost all the
remaining ones are of the old, soft substance that time and weather make
impossible to decipher. Some of the markers are easier to read from their
photographs than the actual stones themselves.
I did not find the 4x great aunt Jane Dawdy Ellison I'd hoped would be buried
there but I have the great satisfaction of being able to photograph this little
burial ground while it is still intact. There are obvious indications of
construction reaching to within inches along the side of the cemetery with an
opening in the fence. I presume this to be the original gateway.
Thanks to Joan Dawdy Wilton who submitted the photos and information from June 18, 2005

This cemetery no longer exists... just a few stones in a far back corner laid into either cement or the grass.
