Rev. Robert Rowbotham died at Westernville, thursday of last week..funeral Sunady at home and M.E. Church...Bearers G.E. Olney, C. Frank Floyd, Jay Macomber and William Pillmore...Interment in Westernville Cemetery...Relatives and friends from Boonville attending: Mr. & Mrs. J Otis Butts, William T Butts, Mrs. Amanda Jackson, Julius F Guillaume and Mr. & Mrs. Walter L White.

He was born in Scarsboro, England, 2 Jan. 1820...his father lived to be over 80 yrs. old, died in Wisconsin, and his mother lived to be 60 years old and died in Oswego County, NY.

Robert was 6 or 7 years old when he came with his parents to this country and settled in Westernville. He was aprenticed to John O. Dale of Westernville to learn shoemaker's trade. Meanwhile his father purchased a farm in Orwell and went there to reside...Went to (various places mentioned--to preach) in Wisconsin spring of 1850..there about 22 years, in Dodge, Columbia, and Sauk counties..was once at Black Earth on the prarie du Chien road from Milwaukee...went to Nebraska.

April 1888 suffered an accident that disabled hin [having to do with being in a bldg that was struck by lightning]. Married Miss Jane Jones Dec 1839, she d. 1845. March 1848 he married Miss Mary A Beebe of Manlius who died 32 years after in NEbraska...Aug. 1881 he married Mary J Lashua of Boonville, who survives.



One brother, Rev. William R Rowbotham of South Dakota, and one sister, Mrs. Cole of Oswego Co., survive. He had 9 children, 7 of whom are living, eldest son dying in service in Civil Warm, and another son, Pliny, died 1899. Surviving children are Mrs. Angeline J Butts of Boonville, Robert M Rowbotham of Elmwood, Nebraska, Mrs. Mary Carpenter of Sutherland, Nebr., R N of Eagle, Nebr., an employee of Union Pacific RR; Eddy S of Hutchinson, Kansas, Mrs. Hope Coazad [Bozard] also of Nebr. and MRs. The death of Rev. Robert Robotham occurred at 6:30 am today from a general breaking down of the system, from a general breaking down of the system. He had been failing for some time and his death was not unexpected.
Mr. Robotham was born in England Jan 2, 1820 and came to America when about twelve years of age. He began preaching in the Methodist denomination when 28 years of age. For nearly a quarter of a century he followed the itinerancy in Wisconsin and later preached in Nebraska and New York. About twenty years ago he returned from active preaching and has since made his home in this place. During this time he has suplied various pulpits.

He is survived by his widow and seven children. Robert and John of Eagle, Neb., Edward of Hutchinson, Kan., Mrs. Angelina Butts of Boonville, Mrs. Mary Carpenter of Southerland, Neb., and Mrs. Hannah Nash and Mrs. Hope Bozard, who live near Malcolm, Neb.,

also by one brother, William, of Huron, S.D. and on sister, Mrs. Jane Cole of Howardsville, NY. The funeral will be held at the Methodist Church in this place at 2 pm Sunday and will be in charge of the Masons. All members of Baron Steuben Lodge are requested to meet at the church at 1:30 on that day.

Rome Newspaper Obituary October 1917 Death of Mrs Countryman occurred Sunday Night at Rome Rome, October 10. 1917 Mrs. Daniel W Countryman, of 905 North Madison Street, an esteemed Rome woman, died last Sunday night. She had been in poor health for about two years. Her maiden name was Mary Isabel Robotham and she was a daughter of the late Mr & Mrs William Robotham, of Ava, where she was born, April 11, 1857. She came to Rome in 1875. March 24, 1861 she married Mr Countryman, who survives with one son, Howard E Countryman, of this city, and two stepsons, Irving of Bartlett, and William Countryman of Holland Patent; also one sister, Lydia Thompson of Utica. Mrs Countryman was an earnest member and hard worker in the First M.E. church and also in the W C T U of which she was a member. She also belonged to the Woman's Home Missionary Society and the Ladies Aid Society of the church. Rome Sentinel Obituary July 14, 1911 Stage Driver for Years Death of Thomas J Robotham, Well-known risident of North Western Rome, July 14--Thomas J Robotham, of West Branch, who for a number of years drove the West Leyden stage to and from this city, died at his home there last Saturday morning, hemmorhage of the brain being the cause of death. The departed was born in the town of Lee, August 3, 1858, but the greater part of his life was spent in West Leyden. Since a boy, he had worked around horses and teaming was his occupation. For the past 20 years he drove the stage to and from this city. In 1884 he married Lorena Stevens of Constableville and she died in 1897. Five children were born to them and following three survive: Mrs. Henry Backus of Jersey City; James of Herkimer; and Howard, who since the death of his mother when he was 11 months old, has lived with the family of Mr and Mrs D W Countryman of 903 N Madison St. this city and is know as Howard Countryman. Mrs Countryman is a sister of the deceased and there is one other sister, Mrs. Alex Thompson of Utica. After the death of his wife, Mr. Robotham went to live with his mother at West Leyden and on her death two years ago, he went to live with the family of John Houser, who conducts the hotel at West Branch, where he has since made his home.
