The American Battle Monuments Commission is the government agency responsible for maintaining overseas military cemeteries for all conflicts since the founding of our country.  This database is an extract and contains a listing of Cobbs still yet buried overseas from World Wars One and Two; and a listing of Cobbs who were casualties of the Korean War.

           OVERSEAS COBB BURIALS

The Department of Veteran’s Affairs (formerly called the Veteran’s Administration; or VA for short) is responsible for providing military headstones for veterans, which have been requested by surviving family members.  This database is extracted from the DVA website and is a listing of all Cobbs buried in the US who have a military grave marker.

This database includes a listing of veterans from the War of 1812 up to the present time, their spouses and children.

This is NOT just a listing of persons buried in national cemeteries, but includes burials in non-government cemeteries also.

From the genealogical standpoint, let me point out something.  A government military grave marker has to be requested by a surviving family member ... WHO HAS PROVIDED DOCUMENTATION OF THE VETERAN’S MILITARY SERVICE.  Therefore, if you’ve had difficulty identifying an ancestor’s service, and you can find him/her listed in this database, you will have assurance that somebody at some point in time did have the proof you seek.

Contrary to my understanding of Federal Law, it is possible to find a Confederate veteran buried in a US cemetery.  This database proves it.

For some strange reason it is also possible to find duplication in this database.  By that I mean multiple records of headstones for the same person in multiple locations.  There are not many, and the ones I’ve found have been grouped together and placed in BLUE font.
