[Note: Samuel Cobb was born in Orange/Caswell County, North Carolina, in 1768, the son of Noah Cobb.]

 

 

 

In the name of God, Amen. I Samuel Cobb of Madison County and State of Kentucky being sick and weak in body but of sound mind and disposing memory for which I thank God and calling to mind the uncertainty of human life and being desirous to dispose of all such worldly estate that hath pleased God to help me with. I give and bequeath the same in manner following, that is to say I give one-third part of my land to my wife Nancy during her natural life and I give the other two-thirds of my land to my son Samuel Cobb on condition that he support myself and his mother decently and clear of want during both of our lives and at the death of myself and his Mother, my son Samuel Cobb is to have all the land and I wish my executors, that I shall appoint, to sell as much of my property as to pay my funeral expenses and all my just debts. I wish my daughter Matilda to have all the property about the house that she claims. I also give my daughter Matilda one sarel filly, 2 years old. I wish my daughter Nancy Shearer to have one colt worth Twenty-five dollars. I also give my daughter Peggy Bruce one year after the death of myself and wife, Ten dollars. I give to Fanny Keen, Ten dollars at the same time. I give Parky Cobb, ten dollars at the same time. I give to Zena Cobb, Ten dollars at the same time. I give James Cobb, Ten dollars at the same time. I give Elizabeth Keen, Ten dollars at the same time. I give Fanny Shearer Ten dollars at the same time. I wish all the stock that I have to remain on the place and all the household and kitchen furniture and all and everything to remain just as it is that I have not disposed of otherwise. I appoint my wife and my son Samuel Cobb to be my executers. In Testimony where unto I have set my hand and made my seal this 9th day of June in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eighteen hundred and Thirty-five.

I David Irwin, clerk of the Court for the County aforesaid hereby certify at a County Court held for Madison County of Monday the 10th day of August 1835.

 

This instrument of writing was produced in open Kentucky Court and presented to be the last will and Testament of Samuel Cobb by the oath of Wesley Parish and John Owen witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded and the same has been done accordingly.
