Robert Cobb

(1770-c1853)

1.  Robert COBB was born in 1770 in New Jersey.  He was the son of Clisby Cobb and wife Margaret Young of Catawba County, North Carolina.  He appeared on the census in 1830 in McMinn County, Tennessee.  On this enumeration the household included 1 male under 5 yrs, and one male 60-70 yrs; 1 female under 5 yrs, 1 female 5-10 yrs, 1 female 15-20 yrs, and 1 female 30-40 yrs.  He appeared on the census in 1840 in Polk County, Tennessee.  This enumeration shows that in his household was 1 male, 10-15 yrs of age; and 1 male, 60-70 yrs of age.  There were 2 females, 10-15 yrs of age; and 1 female, 40-50 yrs of age.  This count confirms that a daughter (Eliza Ann) had married since 1830.  He appeared on the census on August 29, 1850 in Polk County, Tennessee.  At that time there were no children remaining in this household. However, Robert and wife Elizabeth were living next door to son John Cobb.  Robert was a veteran of the War of 1812.

He was married to Elizabeth LNU (COBB) before 1810 in Tennessee (probably).  Considering the age gap between them, this was almost certainly not Robert's first marriage.  Further, the three children shown here are only those that are identified at this time.  There were surely others that are yet to be discovered.  Elizabeth LNU (COBB) was born about 1796 in North Carolina.  She appeared on the census in 1830 in McMinn County, Tennessee.  She appeared on the census in 1840 in Polk County, Tennessee.  She appeared on the census on August 29, 1850 in Polk County, Tennessee.  Robert COBB and Elizabeth LNU (COBB) had the following children:

+2   i.          George COBB Sr (born about 1810).  He married Susannah Amos (below).

+3   ii.          Eliza Ann COBB (born on March 21, 1816).  She married John F. Amos (below).

+4   iii.         John A. COBB (born about 1820).

The Amos Family

1.  John AMOS was born between 1770 and 1780.  He appeared on the census in 1830 in McMinn County, Tennessee.  On this enumeration, the household included 1 male 10-15 yrs, 2 males 20-30 yrs, 1 male 50-60 yrs; and 1 female 10-15 yrs, 2 females 15-20 yrs, and 3 females 50-60 yrs.

His wife’s name is not known but he was married before 1806.  This based on the birth date of the first known child of this marriage.  Mrs. AMOS was born between 1770 and 1780.  They had the following children:

The relationship between the Cobb and Amos families is yet to be fully explored.  Aside from the fact that two

children from each family married, it is apparent that both families moved from Tennessee to Georgia together.
