Coddington, his widow Ann Hanley wrote, "And as regards my husband age I don know but he was about fifty when he died if you will write to his sister she will give you full purticlars [sic] about her family. I do know that the whole family was residents of Nyork for generations his business was a commission broker he he got sick but he died very poor as I have to work untill my girls gets big." ⁴⁹⁷⁶
