Minard Smith was well to do. He invented the first nail manufacturing machine. He had a plant in New York City (Brooklyn) and in Brussels, Belgium. He shared the business with one partner.
His wife, Mary, was born and raised out in the country of Warren (Mt Horeb), NJ, and she later bought property out there and established a farm.
