[Enoch and Martha] immediately established the home on the land and it remained in their possession until it was sold in 1867, when they left Indiana and moved to Illinois. All of their children were born in this home and from it several left its friendly shelter to marry and set up homes of their own."
"Enoch Coddington must have had a balanced mind coupled with good judgment. Notwithstanding, he was a distiller, made and sold large quantities of whiskey, he was a teetotaler of both liquor and tobacco. The five sturdy sons he and his wife used neither liquor nor tobacco. This at a time when 90 per cent of the matured male population of the country used tobacco in some form and the liquor jug sat on a shelf behind the pantry door, accessible at any time." ⁴⁶⁴
