  General Notes:

Hotel keeper. First Sheriff in Garrett Co, elected in 1873, served at least through 1878. Buried in Catholic section of cemetery.
According to his obituary, Thomas moved to Wisconsin in about 1853 and there married Ellen Thompson, with whom he had one son, William H. The 1860 census records the family, as well as, presumably, Ellen's mother, Ann Thompson, aged 58. When Ellen died, Thomas moved back to Garrett Co., Maryland, and married his second wife, Cecilia Jamison.

• His obituary was published on 6 Feb 1896 in , Garrett Co., Maryland, USA. 1561 The Republican, Feb. 6, 1896 - Died - CODDINGTON.--After an illness extending over a year death released from his sufferings, Mr. Thomas Coddington, on Saturday night last. The deceased was born near Selbysport, this county, Nov. 6, 1834. About the year 1853 he removed to Wisconsin and married a Miss Thompson. From this union one son was born, William, who resided at Piedmont, W. Va. After the death of his wife Mr. Coddington returned to Garrett county and was united in marriage to Miss Cecelia, daughter of the late "Squire R. B. Jameson. Mr. Coddington removed to Oakland in 1869 where he has resided continually. He was elected as the first sheriff of Garrett county and was re-elected to that office in 1877. He leaves a widow and nine children surving him, William, by his first wife, Mrs. Mary Dent, of Schell, W.Va.; Mrs. Alice Feather, of Cranesville, W. Va.; Frank, Lucy, Emma, Horace, Richard and Rosalie, all of Oakland. The funeral occurred on Monday morning, the interment being made in Shaffer's cemetery. The funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Father Romanus Mattingly, of St. Peter's church.
