Roswell participated in the Civil War. Enlisted as Private at Batavia, NY 22 May, 1861 in Co F, 28th NY Volunteer Infantry. Taken sick at Hancock, MD, and died at Williamsport PA of typhoid fever. He never engaged the enemy. Letters to his mother survive. ²³⁸⁵
