one of the enterprising farmers and an old settler of Bremer Co Iowa, was born in Chautauqua Co NY he was reared on a farm, and educated in the common schools, In the spring of 1853 he emigrated to Belvidere Boone Co IL and while there was engaged in railroading, and in September of that same year came to Bremer Co IOWA, locating on a farm on section 84 where he now resides, He was married in the town of Belvidere IL in April 29, 1855 to Miss Harriet R. STEWART, dau of William, born in Chautauqua Co NY July 30, 1835. 4 children have blessed this union, Mary E now the wife of Albert ROWAN, Jessie A a student at Osage IA, Alva B and William S. Mr Coddington came to Iowa with but a few hundred dollars and is now one of the "well to do" farmers of this county. ²⁴³⁷
