Enlisted at Wyreka, Putnam Co., Missouri 14 Nov. 1861 as a private, Co. G. 18th Missouri Inf. Commissioned 2nd Lieut. 1st Lt., Captain, 5 Mar 1864. Taken prisoner at Pittsburg Landing, Tennessee, 31 Oct 1862. Released and exchanged. Mustered out 14 Nov. 1865.
Was a Captain, Co F, 18th Reg Missouri Inf Vol, Civil War. Enlisted with his father and brother George. His brother, David H., enlisted early in the war, and brothers William and Lewis enlisted when they became old enough.
