James E. CODDINGTON 676
General Notes: An article in the Evening News related that Emma May Hopper accused James of bigamy following his marriage to Lillian May Wyckoff on December 30, 19??. Miss Hopper said that she had married James in 1894 in Astoria New York and was deserted by him in 1902. Ms. Hopper also "spoke of a decree of divorce which her errant husband said he secured in Nebraska in 1903," but the county prosecutor found an irregularity in the proceedings. Detectives thereafter sought James and finally located him in Philadelphia living with his second wife in a boarding house. Because James dealt extensively in real estate, the deeds of many properties he had sold may have been invalid since the signature of his alleged wife did not appear. His brother Horace stated to the paper that the charges were blackmail. 802 Noted events in his life were: • He appeared on the census in 1880 in Warren Twp., Somerset Co., New Jersey, USA. 684 James married Lillian May WYCKOFF on 30 Dec in Griggstown, Somerset Co., New Jersey, USA.802 James next married Emma Francis HOPPER in 1902 in Astoria, Astoria, Queens Co., New York, USA.802 |
