  General Notes:

"John Parshall was a soldier of the Revolution. He enlisted in the Spring of 1876 [sic] in the Suffolk County Company, commanded by Capt. Reeve, and served about five months; re-englised in the company commanded by Capt. Conklin, and served as a carpenter at Newburg, Orange County, N. Y., for one year. On the 5th of May, 1778, he enlisted at newburf in the company of Capt. Walker, under whom he served for about nine months. It was during this time that he took part in the Battle fo Monmouth. In 1779 he was attached to the Newburg company, and was called on to render short tours of duty, as occasion demanded. In the Spring of the 1780 he again enlisted as a volunteer in the company of Capt. Drake of Newburg and served about three months, participating in a battle with the Indians near Fort Plain, N. Y. He also appears to have served for a short time in a Connecticut regiment. On October 16th, 1832, he applied for a pension which was granted for actual service in the Revolutionary War. He seems to have remained in Newburg after the War until about 1803, when he removed to Middelfield, Otsego County, N. Y. Here he purchased a tract of wild land of 175 acres which had upon it a small log cabin in which he lived for some years. By tireless industry on the part of himself and his family, the heavy forests werre cleared away; good substantial buildings were erected and at the time of his death he had acquired considerable property. The house and some other out-buildings were burned years ago but the barns are still standing." 2885
