Thomas CAWOOD was known to be in Connecticut in 1640 and in Woodbridge, New Jersey in 1675. He was a follower of Reverend John Youngs who had probably been the pastor of the Congregational Church at Hingham, Norfolkshire, England and brought his church with him to New Haven, Connecticut in 1639/40.
A Stephen CAWOOD, baptized on May 14, 1630, at Pontefract, York, England, emigrated to America in the latter part of 1665 and founded the Maryland branch of the CAWOOD family. His wife was Ann Terrett. He was killed in the Indian War in 1675. Stephen CAWOOD's ancestry is known back to about 1200. It is probable, but not proved, that Stephen CAWOOD was a brother of Thomas CAWOOD
Thomas married Ruth ADAMS, daughter of Thomas ADAMS and Rebecca POTTER.
