Known as "Polly." She and BIll had started the process of adopting a boy about nine months old, whom she brought out with her to Livermore, California to be with Bill. The adoption procedures were somewhat sub rosa or at least barely begun. Polly had known someone who was having a baby. She died suddenly of a heart attack. Bill flew with her body and the boy back to Cooperstown where he returned the boy to the social worker. ²⁰
