26 September 1803

In the name of God, amen. I, John Douthit of Hampshire County and State of Virg., being at this time indisposed in body, but perfectly in the exercise of my natural reasoning, knowing the uncertainty of life, do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament and do hereby revoke all other Wills and Testaments made heretofore.

Imprimus, I give and bequeath to my loving wife, Margaret Douthit, two hundred acres of a tract of land, lying and being in Canawa County on the Ohio River purchased of Richard Holliday as will appear by sd Holliday's bond of conveyance date the 17th day of September 1803, the sd 200 acres being one half of sd tract to be laid off according to quantity and quality, also my personal property during her natural life. I, also, will and ordain that my wife, Margaret, shall pay on the expiration of one year after my decease unto my sons already provided for Viz: Thos. Douthit, John, Silas, Solomon & Caleb Douthit, each five schillings sterling. I also will and ordain that my wife, Margaret, shall pay at the time above mentioned, out of the property devised to her, thirty pounds, Virginia currency to each of my five daughters, Viz: Rebecca Cooper, Catherine Tunkle (Dunkle), Mary, Sara, and Christiena Douthit, and the balance remaining to be disposed of as my wife shall direct before her decease.

Lastly, I give and bequeath to my two sons, David and Daniel, the remaining 200 acres of the tract of land already mentioned i.e. one hundred acres to each to be divided according to quantity and quality to the sd David and Daniel Douthit and their heirs forever.

I also will and ordain that my wife shall pay all my just debts out of the property already divided to her and I do hereby constitute my loving wife and my trusty friend, William Vause executors of this my last Will and Testament.

In testimony whereof, I have set my hand and seal this 26th day of September 1803.
