Enlisted at New York, NY 14 Nov 1862 Private, Co. A, 156th NY Inf. Discharged 14 Sep 1864 Carver Hospital, Washington DC. Civil War Pension No. WC 326,860. Moses and three sons, Edward, George, and Levi, fought in the Civil War. Levi died at the battle of Saratoga.

In her letter to Freeman Worth Gardner, Bernice Lewis Swainson says Moses served in the revolution and she incorrectly reports his death as 1844 instead of 1884, but correctly reports Eliza Catherine's death date of 6 Dec. 1893. ^{3870,3871,3872}
