Alfred Louis Colby, age 87, of Buford passed away Thursday evening February 21, 2008.
Al was born in Boston, MA on May 29, 1920 and was raised in Rochester, NH, where he graduated from high school.
He enlisted in the United States Army in 1942 and served in Panama during WWII. He was assigned to Battalion A, Battery 346 of Antiaircraft Search Light Battalion. Al was honorably discharged as a Sergeant in 1945.
He met and married Naomi "Ski" Maier from Atlanta in 1946. They remained faithfully married for 61 years.
Al moved to Atlanta in 1948 and attended Georgia State University.
He began his career in the transportation industry in 1950 and worked in sales until he retired in 1985 as a District Sales Manager for Ryder Truck Lines.
Al was was a devoted family man who had many hobbies and interests. He loved fly-fishing, gardening, cooking, reading, and all forms of music. His love of music was gained from his father, a professional musician. Al played all wind and keyboard instruments. Al's nature was that of a nurturer and his many interests were passed down to his daughter, son, and grandson.
Al is survived by his wife, Naomi "Ski" Colby, his daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Cecil Cooke, of Atlanta, GA; son, Marc Colby, of Cumming, GA; and his grandson, Taylor Louis Cooke, of Austin, TX.
A memorial service will be 11AM Monday February 25, at The Episcopal Church of St. Mary and St. Martha of Bethany, in Buford with Rev. Timothy Watts officiating.
Inurnments with full military honors will be 11AM Tuesday, February 26 in Georgia National Cemetery, Canton, GA.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to The Episcopal Church of St. Mary and St. Martha of Bethany, 3805 Braselton Highway, Buford, Georgia 30519. 770-271-4067.

Mrs. Alice Talbot, life long resident of Clallam Bay and daughter of pioneer settlers in that area, died at a Seattle hospital Tuesday morning. Funeral services will be at the Christman Mortuary chapel Thursday at 2pm with Rev. James T Albertson officiating. Burial will be in Ocean View Cemetery.
Alice Colby, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Aurelius Colby, was born on the family homestead on the Hoko River, near Clallam Bay, Oct 3, 1874. Her parents were among the first settlers in the western part of Clallam County. She was married to George Talbot and reared 8 children, 4 sons and 4 daughters, at the Hoko River home.
