KALISPELL - Hazel Montana Gilbertson Capps, 95, passed away Monday, July 31, 2006, at the Immanuel Lutheran Home in Kalispell. She was born Aug. 7, 1910, in Kalispell, the daughter of Walter and Alelia (Clothier) Colby.

She was married to Sidney A. Gilbertson in the spring of 1930. He preceded her in death in 1936. She was married to Walter Capps who preceded her in death in 1968.

She is survived by her son, Sidney Gilbertson of Oceanside, Calif.; grandsons Joseph and John; great-grandchildren Brittany, Tyler and Jessica; sisters Queveene Tally and Marie Sterner; and brother George Colby, all of Kalispell.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at C.E. Conrad Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 2-6 p.m. at Johnson Mortuary.

WATSON: Helen (Colby), 99, of St. Johnsbury, passed away at her home, Wednesday, July 30, 2003.

She was born in East Orange, Vt., July 27, 1904, the daughter of Charlie M. and Katie (Tillotson) Colby. She graduated from Spaulding High School in Barre and Lovell Commercial College in New Hampshire.

Helen was a member of the Rebekahs Olive Branch 4 and Grace United Methodist Church. She married Andrew Watson Oct. 18, 1930 and they made their home in St. Johnsbury.

She was predeceased by her husband and a daughter, Jean; two brothers, Edson and Dwight Colby; and a sister, Bertha Abbiati.

She is survived by two nephews, James W. Colby of Falls Church, Va., and Irwin Watson of Sherbrook, Quebec; three nieces, Jean Jantz of Vista, Calif., Phoebe Dupont of Middlesex, Vt., and Marion Saxby of Lake Elmore, Vt.; and special neighbors Midge Whitcomb and Jack Wallstrom.

There will be no services and burial will be private at a later date at the Grove Cemetery in East St. Johnsbury.

Memorial contributions may be made in Helen's name to Caledonia Home Health, Visiting Nurses, P.O. Box 383, St. Johnsbury, VT 05819.

She received her education from the Lincoln School on Paris Hill and Paris schools, graduating in 1940 from the South Paris High School.

She was preceded in death by her husband Toivo.

Funeral services will be held at 1pm Thursday, June 11 at the Calvary Baptist Church, 20 North Main Street, Turner with a time of fellowship immediately following at the church. Interment will follow at 6pm at the Hillside Cemetery in South Paris. Family and friends may call at the Weston-Chandler Funeral Home, 45 Main Street, South Paris on Wednesday evening, June 10 from 6 to 8pm.

SOUTH PARIS - Helen Colby Heikkinen, 86, a resident for one month of the Maine Veterans Home in South Paris, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, June 5, 2009 after a courageous battle with breast cancer.

She was born in South Paris on February 6, 1923 to Scott Orange Colby and Annie Hannaford Chase Colby. She was the youngest of eight children. Her mother passed away when she was four years old and her oldest sister, Laura Foster and her husband, Joel Foster brought her up. Their son, Erland Foster, was like a brother to her.

She received her education from the Lincoln School on Paris Hill and Paris schools, graduating in 1940 from the South Paris High School.

She worked at the store on Paris Hill, the S.L. Merchant Store in Norway, and the Andrews Nursing Home in South Paris. For many years and right up until the end of her being at home, she sold honey and Black Angus beef for her son out of her kitchen. She enjoyed selling and also meeting customers whom she soon considered to be friends.

On August 1, 1948 she married Toivo Arvid Heikkinen. They brought up Toivo's nephew, Eino Ronkko and had three children. She was a very loving and kind wife and mother.

She enjoyed gardening and freezing and canning the fruits and vegetables, sharing recipes, making Finnish bread and foods, watching her grandchildren play sports and attending their school programs, keeping scrapbooks and participating in the programs of the Paris Historical Society, playing Phase Ten, refinishing furniture, knitting, crocheting, embroidery, crafts, writing to the church missionaries, reading her Bible, singing hymns and playing the piano.

She loved going on church visitation and was an Elder woman, Sunday school teacher, AWANA leader and church clerk for many years at the Paris Hill Bible Church. Most recently she attended church with her son and was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Turner.

Mrs. Heikkinen is survived by her daughters, Cynthia Cushman of Norway and Laura Drouin and her husband Paul of South Paris; her son, Stephen and his wife Kathy of South Paris; 11 grandchildren, Kevin, Karen, Sarah, Elisabeth, David, Peter, Stephen, Philip, Blaine, Aiden and Kaisa Marie and six great-grandchildren, Caleb, Hailey, Josiah, Morgan, Isaac and Abigail.

She was predeceased by her husband, Toivo; her nephew, Eino Ronkko; her brothers, George, Charles, William, Sherman and Robert and her sisters, Laura Foster and Lenise Dennison.

II Timothy 4:7-8: "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing."

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 11 at the Calvary Baptist Church, 20 North Main Street, Turner with a time of fellowship immediately following at the church. BOW - Helen C. Cheney, 72, died Thursday, May 12, 2005, at home.

She was born in Bow, the daughter of Frank E. Colby and Hazel (Meyers) Colby.

She was a member of the Bow Mills United Methodist Church, and she volunteered at the Mc-Kereley Nursing Home and for the Bow school system.

She is survived by her husband, Arthur Cheney; sons, Peter A. Cheney of Bow, Wayne A. Cheney of Dunbarton, Jeffrey A. Cheney of Hooksett and Matthew C. Cheney of Loudon; a daughter, Julie Lundevall of Newmarket; her sisters Phyllis Gordon of Bow, Marilyn Moody of Bow and Betsy Tillotson of Concord.

She was predeceased by three brothers and three sisters.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Bow Mills Methodist Church.

A private committal service will be held at Evans cemetery in Bow.

Helen C. Colby

Helen Caroline Colby, 85, died Jan. 4 at Havenwood Nursing Home in Concord.

She was born in 1917 in Baden, Pa., the daughter of Irving and Mary (Bartlett) Colby. She graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 1941 and earned a master's degree from the University of Washington in 1966.

She worked as a librarian and teacher in the Laconia school system from 1955 to 1974 and in Keene from 1974 to 1976. She was a member of the Girl Scouts of America since 1932 and served as executive director of the Concord and Bangor, Maine, Girl Scout councils between 1945 and 1953.

For the past five decades, she also operated a Christmas tree farm in Nottingham.

She was a contributor to the League of New Hampshire Craftsmen.

She enjoyed traveling, camping and observing nature.

She is survived by six nephews, including Joseph Colby of Nottingham.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Jan. 31 at the chapel at Heritage Heights, 149 East Side Drive in Concord.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Audubon Society of New Hampshire, 3 Silk Farm Road, Concord 03301.

The Bennett Funeral Home, Concord, is in charge of arrangements.
