Warren rowed out on the Contoocook River in a thunderstorm to look after some ducks that had strayed away. "When he did not return his family gave the alarm and searching parties were organized, but the body was not recovered until the ninth day. A diver was employed and large throngs of people gathered to watch the unusual sight. The services of a clairvoyant were also engaged, but the final recovery was made by a body of neighbors who had kept up a constant search of the river."
