DR. WILLIAM GOULD\ RETIRED MEDICAL EXAMINER, 75
Dr. William C. Gould, 75, of Kingston, former Plymouth County medical examiner who practiced medicine here for 39 years, died Friday in Massachusetts General Hospital after a brief illness.
Born in Worcester, he was graduated from Worcester public schools and attended Dartmouth College on a track scholarship for two years. He was graduated from the University of Illinois in 1931 and from the Tufts University Medical school in 1935.
Dr. Gould interned at Worcester City Hospital from 1936 until 1939, before opening his practice here.
After a three-year Army stint, he returned to Boston in 1942 to study orthopedics at Boston City Hospital, returning to Kington in 1946 to his practice. He retired in 1982.
Dr. Gould was well known throughout Plymouth County as a medical examiner for 25 years, retiring from that post in 1983. He had been vice president of the Massachusetts Medical Legal Society.
He also was on the staff at Jordan Hospital in Plymouth for 25 years.
He was a member of numerous professional and civic organizations, including the Massachusetts and American Medical Assn., the Duxbury Cornerstone Masonic Lodghe and the Tufts Medical School Alumni. He also was a member of the Flycasters Club of Boston.
He leaves his wife, Rachel E. (Colby); a son, Edward B. Gould of Kingston; a daughter, Patricia A. Wade of Kingston; a brother, Robert E. Gould of San Diego; a sister, Marjorie Starboard of Orleans and two grandsons
His funeral service will be private. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Kingston.
