Hiram F. KRUM was born on 20 MAY 1824 in Ohio. He died on 9 JAN 1908 at Genesee, Latah County, Idaho.
Only Krums found in Cherry Valley, Ashtabula Co., Ohio at approx. date of Thatcher's birth (per Civil War pension records) was Peter Krum, age 80, and in the same household Henry and Abel (probably his sons) ages 49 & 44, with their families. Hiram F., Thatcher's father, was 26 at this time. Did not find Hiram F.Krum age 26 in this household, but did find a Hiram Fleming, age 23, listed as living with these Krums and working as a laborer. Perhaps the Fleming is not a last name as it seems in the census, but is a middle name. Still the ages do not match and where are the wife, Mary, and 4 yr old child, Thatcher?

Note:need to see whether Mary and Thatcher are listed in Colby household in 1850 census for Cherry Valley.

1850 census conclusions:
Peter b. abt 1770 NY
Abel b. abt 1806 NY
Henry b. abt 1801 NY

1840 census shows Peter, Henry and Abel as head of households with only Peter and Abel having a son of the age (16) that Hiram would have been. Thus Peter could be either Hiram's father or grandfather. If he is his grandfather then Abel is probably his father. If Peter is his father, then Henry and Abel are probably his brothers.

Peter, Abel, and Henry were born in New York according to the census records of 1850. The AIS for 1820 in New York shows both a Peter and a Henry living in Marbletown, Ulster Co. New York. Abel is not listed. No other county in New York lists both a Henry and a Peter Krum.

Conclusions: Next search location should probably be Marbletown, Ulster Co. NY.

Thatcher M. KRUM was born on 25 FEB 1846 in Cherry Valley, Ashtabula County, Ohio. He died on 10 NOV 1921 at Milford, Seward County, Nebraska. Conflicting information occurs on records:
1900 Fed. census lists Ohio for birthplace
1885 State census (Neb.)gives Ohio for birthplace.
1880 Fed. census for Stanton Village, Stanton Co., Neb. lists Ohio. for birth place...BUT...
1921 death certificate lists Livingston Co., Ill as birthplace. ???

What is his father's name? (guess: Hiram. see below)

Hiriam and a Hiram F. Krum appear on loan/morgtage doc. dated
Are these relatives? More than likely. But are they father and brother, uncle, cousin?

Hiram F. Krum and wife Mary C. Krum of Madison Co., Neb. sell some real estate in 1896. (So Hiram has a wife named Mary and this is the county listed as her residence when Angeline Krum's purchased of land in Stanton Co. NE back in 1875.)

In 1880 H. F. Krum is listed as a widower and living in Clatsop Co., Oregon (coastal Ore.) on a deed which conveys/sells land in Madison Co. Neb..
Should I look for his death certificate or land transactions in Oregon to see what his relationship was to Thatcher? Maybe he's Thatcher's father, but even if he's Thatcher's brother, his death certificate might list their father and mother. (Follow up needed here)

In 1897 Thatcher and Angeline signed a quit claim deed to land in Madison Co. Neb. For $1 they gave up land in Madison Co. But notary signed in Stanton Co. (Apparently they were living in Stanton Co. NE in 1897 still.
Therefore, should be able to find them there in 1900 census. (need to look)

Also deed record in Madison Co. NE turned up a L. K. Krum (unmarried) in 1881 who sold to a Horace Haskin of DeKalb Co. IL. while living himself in the territory of Washington, Walla Walla Co. (How does he fit into all this and are either of these other counties/state areas meriting search?)

Checked county map of Illinois: DeKalb Co. and Livinston Co. are near each other. Should check census indexes for Krums in those counties of Ill.(also adjacent Grundy, Kendall, Kane & LaSalle) during years 1846-1881 and copy if Krums found. They are probably related and tracing their roots may uncover my Thatcher's ancestors.
