She was born April 28, 1929 in Akron Ohio the daughter of Clair C. and Ruth C. (Noon) Phillips.
She was educated in schools in Akron Ohio and graduated from Business College in Ohio.
She married Ray O. Colby in 1951 who predeceased her in 1993.
Betty was a homemaker and worked as a Secretary at Unity College for several years. She attended the Dixmont United Methodist Church, was a member of the Dixmont Ladies Club, the Dixmont Extension, North Star Grange, member of the Brooks Senior Citizens, member of the Red Hatters Club. She was the Exhibits Co-Coordinator at the Bangor State Fair for a year and also worked as a reporter for a local newspaper. Betty loved to laugh, loved her family and friends, enjoyed traveling, meeting people, playing Canasta, laughing and enjoying life all along the way.
She is survived by three sons; Dale Colby and his wife Annette of Wasilla Alaska, Ronald Colby and his wife Sue of Litchfield, Jerry Colby of Palmyra, one daughter and her husband Sally and Greg Richards of Corinna, one brother Clair Phillips of Santa Maria, CA, two sisters, Joan Tanner and Shirley Stavroff both of Akron, OH, 8 grandchildren; Michelle, Scott, Adam, Luke, Neal, Sarah, Jason, Laura, two great grandchildren, Ryder and Utah, several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Memorial services will be conducted 1PM Thursday Oct. 9, 2008 at the Dixmont United Methodist Church Rt.#9 Dixmont, Me, with Rev. Charles Langbein officiating.
Immediately following the service a potluck reception will be held at the Dixmont Goldcrest Riders Snowmobile Club, Gates Road, Dixmont.

Betty Ruth (Phillips) Colby

A dear mother, sister and aunt, Betty, 79 years old, of Dixmont, Maine, enjoyed many jobs and many clubs in Maine. She passed away peacefully into heaven at a Bangor, Maine hospital.
She was born and raised in Akron and graduated from North High School and Hammel Business College.
She was predeceased by husband, Ray O. Colby; parents, Clair A. and and Ruth C. Phillips; and sister, Catherine F. Devitis. She is survived by four loving children, Dale (Ann) Colby of Alaska, Ron (Sue) Colby of Maine, Jerry Colby of Maine and Sally (Greg) Richardson of Maine; eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; brother, Clair Phillips of California; sisters, Joan Tanner and Shirley Stavroff of Akron, Ohio; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held October 9, 2008 in Dixmont, Maine.
