Donald R. Sanborn
EPPING - Donald R. Sanborn, 90, of Fremont Road, died Thursday, Aug. 21, 2003, at the Sunbridge Care & Rehabilitation Center in Exeter, following a brief illness.

A native and lifelong resident of Epping, he was born on May 21, 1913, the son of Walter P. and Sylvia A. Sanborn.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army under General Patton in the Battle of the Bulge.

For many years he owned and operated Sanborn's Nursery. An avid reader, he was also employed for many years as a driver for the N.H. State Library Book Mobile.

He also enjoyed sailing and spent many summers on Bow Lake in Strafford.

He was a member of the Rockingham County Grange and was a longtime contributor to the Epping Historical Society.

He is survived by two brothers, Richard F. Sanborn of Epping, N.H., and Willard Sanborn of Pensacola, Fla.; one sister, Edith Ingalls of Madison, Maine; and several nieces and nephews.

- Donald R. Sanborn, 90, of Fremont Road, Epping, N.H., died Aug. 21, 2003. Calling hours will be held on Friday, Aug. 22, from 6 to 9 p.m. only, at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 8 Pleasant St., Epping. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 23, at 11 a.m. at Prospect Cemetery, Route 27 in Epping. Flowers are acceptable or donations may be made in his memory to the Epping Fireman's Association, 37 Pleasant St., Epping, N.H. 03042.

Mrs. Allen P. Colby

Mrs. Allen P. Colby was born at Danville, Vt., Jan. 12, 1835, and died at McHenry, June 12, 1907, aged 72 years and five months. She was the daughter of Joel R. and Charlotte Sanborn, and of English descent. Her parentage was of early Puritan and colonial stock.

Miss Sanborn was married to Mr. Colby Oct. 11, 1857. Their union was blessed with three children, Mrs. E. R. Gilbert of Chicago, Mrs. W. B. Gilbert of Nunda and Mrs. E. P. Flanders of McHenry, all of whom and husband survive and mourn her departure.

Mrs. Colby had been of failing health for several years, and in her days of strength was faithful and efficient in the duties of life.

EPPING - Richard Favor Sanborn, 91, of Fremont Road, died Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003, at the SunBridge Nursing Home in Exeter after a brief illness.

He was born April 19, 1912, in Epping, the son of the late Walter and Sylvia Sanborn, and was a lifelong resident of Epping.

He was a graduate of Epping High School and received his degree in agriculture from the University of New Hampshire.

Mr. Sanborn worked at Merrimack Farmers in Epping for 25 years and at the Rockingham County Nursing Home in the maintenance department. He devoted his life to agriculture and planting.

He enjoyed home improvement projects.

He was an Epping selectman for two terms, a member of the Epping School Board, was cemetery and library trustee in Epping; an Epping Community Church trustee; a member of 4-H; the Rockingham Grange; and Epping Building and Loan. He was an operator of the Epping Waste Water Treatment plant.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Rachel (Bourne) Sanborn of Epping; one daughter, Priscilla E. Mills of Atkinson; two sons, Charles P. Sanborn and Richard B. Sanborn, both of Epping; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Willard Sanborn of Pensicola, Fla.; one sister, Edith Ingalls of Madison, Maine; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Brewitt Funeral Home, 8 Pleasant St., Epping, with the Rev. Carroll Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Prospect Cemetery, Epping.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Epping Ambulance, Route 27, Epping, NH 03042.

Richard F. Sanborn
EPPING - Largely attended funeral services were held Tuesday from the Brewitt Funeral Home for the town's oldest resident and holder of the Boston Post Cane, Richard F. Sanborn, 91, of Fremont Road.

The services were conducted by the Rev. Carroll Moore, pastor of the Hampton Methodist Church, and formerly pastor of the Epping Community Church and longtime family friend. Words of remembrance were given by Mr. Sanborn's son, Richard Sanborn, nephew Kenneth Ingalls and town official Virginia (Hatfield) LaPierre.

Included in the large attendance were all Epping selectmen, led by Chairman Tom Gauthier; library trustees; Prospect Cemetery trustees; Lynn Garland, head of Rockingham 4H County Extension, former road agent and neighbor William Parker; employees of Hutchinson Sealout of Newfields; James DeBona, representing Phillips Exeter Academy; the entire office staff of Dr. Kenneth Birdsall of Atkinson; classmates of Epping High School, and former members of the Epping School Board, of which Mr. Sanborn was a longtime member.

Monday evening at the Funeral Home, members of Rockingham Grange, led by Master Robert Low held a memorial service. Also, a large representation of staff and teachers, led by Principal Judith Deshaies of the Hampton Falls Elementary School, attended.

Following the funeral service, a committal was held at the family lot in Prospect Cemetery with Rev. Moore giving prayers.

Pallbearers were Rick Sanborn, Jedd Rumford, Gregg Hoetzel and Tim Hovey.
He was buried in the Prospect Cemetery at Epping, Rockingham County, New Hampshire Parents: Walter Perkins SANBORN and Sylvia Alice FAVOR.
