A memorial service will be held Monday at 7 p.m. in Christ Church (Episcopal) in Montpelier for Judith A. Colby, who died April 6, 1993, in Sarasota, Fla. Born in Indianapolis, Ind., Oct. 28, 1924, she was the daughter of James J. Bright and Carrie Louise Bright.

She attended Shortridge High School in Indianapolis and Indiana University where she was a member of Sigma Kappa sorority. In 1947, she received her R.N. from Massachusetts General Hospital School of Nursing. After graduation, she worked at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary.

She married Raymond E. Colby of Littleton, N.H., on Jan. 20, 1949.

In 1950, the couple came to Montpelier. During her 43 years here, she worked at Heaton Hospital and for National Life Insurance Company as an underwriter. Active in community affairs, she was a member of the Montpelier Theater Guild and Christ Church (Episcopal). She was also an avid reader and strong supporter of the Public Library system.

Survivors include her husband of Montpelier; three daughters, Ann Gaines of Moreland Hill, Ohio, Robin Walsh of Cota de Caza, Calif., and Betsy Christ of Columbus, Ohio; one son, James Colby of Burlington; five grandchildren; and one brother, James J. Bright of Indianapolis, Ind.
