Ewell Sharp Family

Sharp Genealogy Page:

Ewell Sharp and Luella Dobbs

This home page was created for descendants of Everett and Erma (Sharp) Rector, in large part from materials presented in The History of the Ewell Sharp Family, compiled by W. Sharp Burnett. Since then, I have been able to document quite a bit of what follows from other sources.

Generation 7: Ewell Sharp and Luella Dobbs

Ewell S. Sharp was born 4 Mar 1848 in Old Buckeye, Anderson (or Campbell) County, Tennessee to James "Jimper" Sharp and Mary Polly Gibbons Smith. He was raised in Scott County, Tennessee. He married Luella Dobbs in October 1872. He seems to have had an interest in genealogy and history, and shared information about the Sharp family with his children. Ewell Sharp died of dropsy at Langum Fork, Wayne County, Kentucky on June 19, 1927, and is buried at the Blevins Cemetery at Langum Fork. Please click here to read a copy of the very loving eulogy read at his funeral by his grandson, Elmer Ewell Crabtree. Click here for a picture of Ewell Sharp. Find a Grave Memorial #46518161

Luella Dobbs was born in 1853 at Wayne County, Kentucky. Her father was Squire William "Bill" Dobbs, Sr. (1822-1901) and her mother was Sarah "Sally" Elizabeth Burk (1827-1891). I was told that Luella was short and stout, and always wore an apron. She was a midwife, and delivered most of her grandchildren, including my grandmother, Erma Sharp Rector. Luella died on 1 Sep 1919 at Langham Fork, Wayne County, Kentucky. Click here for a picture of Luella Dobbs. Find A Grave Memorial #46518653
