John Harvey¹⁰ DOTY (Edward Milton⁹, John H.⁸, Samuel S.⁷, Elizabeth⁶ SUTTON, Uriah⁵, Zebulon⁴, Patience³ MARTIN, John², John¹) was born in New Jersey May 13, 1907.⁽⁵²⁸⁾ John died December 5, 1983 at San Pedro-Peninsula Hospital in San Pedro, Los Angeles County, California at 76 years of age.⁽⁵²⁹⁾ He was interred December 8, 1983 at Green Hills Memorial Park, Harbor View Section, Plot 612F in Rancho Palos Verdes, Los Angeles County, California.⁽⁵³⁰⁾

He married Margery Pauline CAMPBELL circa 1928 in California. Margery was born September 27, 1904 in New York City, New York County, New York.⁽⁵³¹⁾ Margery was the daughter of Samuel CAMPBELL. Margery died June 21, 1986 at San Pedro-Peninsula Hospital in San Pedro, Los Angeles County, California at 81 years of age.⁽⁵³²⁾ She was interred June 25, 1986 at Green Hills Memorial Park, Harbor View Section, Plot 612E in Rancho Palos Verdes, Los Angeles County, California.⁽⁵³³⁾

After her death, Margery remains somewhat of an enigma. Information entered by her on Form SS-5, Application for Social Security Number, gives her birth name as "Campbell" and her birthplace as New York City. However, information contained in the birth and death certificates of her three daughters gives her maiden name as "Campbell", "Bugeia", "Bugeio", "Bujeia", and "Beaujais". These same records indicate her birthplace as "New York", "Island of Malta", Paris, France", and "California".

A search of birth indexes for New York City, covering several years before and after the 27 September 1904 birth date given on her Social Security application, revealed no child born to a Samuel Campbell Family. The inability to confirm her birth in New York City and the conflicting birth names and birthplaces leaves her background a complete mystery.

Of San Pedro passed away June 21, 1986. She was born September 27, 1904 in New York and has lived in San Pedro for 55 years. She is survived by daughter Olive Cribbs of San Pedro; 3 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Interment site services will be held Wednesday, June 25, 12 noon at Green Hills Memorial Park.

John Doty was in the United States Navy for eight years from about 1925 until 1933. While stationed in San Diego, California, he married Margery Campbell. They moved to San Pedro, California in 1931 and lived there for the remainder of their lives. He only returned to New Jersey where he was born and raised once, in July of 1959, to see his sister Edith who was terminally ill from cancer.

His family was visited occasionally by his mother, his sister Olive, and several nephews. His parents moved to California about 1947 and lived there until their deaths.

Contact with his family in New Jersey was maintained intermittently over the years, mostly by mail. Virtually nothing is known about his wife's family.

John Harvey DOTY and Margery Pauline CAMPBELL had the following children:

She was found in a San Pedro hotel at 4:45 p.m. on March 7, 1956. She was taken to Harbor General Hospital in Torrance, California where she died at 5:25 p.m. on Thursday, March 8, 1956.

The cause of death was barbiturate poisoning caused by the ingestion of an overdose of phenobarbital. The investigation was unable to determine whether the overdose was accidental or intentional.

Mrs. Jacqueline Boolen of 528 W. Eighth St. died yesterday at the age of 25.

Mrs. Boolen, a waitress, was a native of San Diego but lived in San Pedro for the past 24 years.

She leaves one son, Michael; one daughter, Margery; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John H. Doty, and one sister, Olive Doty.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Halverson-Leavell Mortuary Chapel.
