Boyd-Conklin

Dear Richard                                                                 Sept 10, 1998

I am so glad that my daughter Sally found you. And I am grateful to have
some new information about my Boyd family.

Later I will have more information for you. It takes me longer to get things
together these days. Our DAR meeting is tomorrow so I'll be "freed up"

I have notified others descended from William and Elisha, so you may be
hearing from them.

My mother was Ethel Elizabeth Boyd, daughter of  Berkley Stanton Boyd,
son of George Washington Boyd, son of Deacon Elisha Boyd, son of William and Margary (Taylor) Boyd.   William was son of John Boyd and Margaret Long who married 11 April 1731 in Boston, Massachusetts.  See More: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~confido/bruceboyd.htm

Elisha fought in the war of 1812 after which he joined all his brothers and
sisters (except John I believe) in the Meredith-Treadwell-Franklin area of
Delaware County, New York.  He crossed the Hudson River at Catskill
with a yoke of oxen and a wagon load of his possessions.  He married
Patty Remington at Meredith - she was born in Vermont, near Bennington.
The name Berkley came from her family.

Elisha and Patty removed to Johnny Brook, a hilly area near Dickerson's
City - later named Cannonsville. This little village lies under water now, a
reservoir which is part of the New York Board of Water Supply System.
This loss still causes a lump in the throat ---

I will write more later - Our Boyds are solid good Christian people - if a
little dour at times.

Your cousin Patricia Boyd Conklin, Deposit, NY.
