Edward Boyd
1935-2008 Berlin, VT - Bruce Edward Boyd passed away on Nov. 25, in Berlin, Vt. He was born on Nov. 27, 1935, in Wilmington, Vt., son of David H. Boyd, Sr. and Mildred L. Carpenter Boyd. Bruce spent his childhood years living in Wilmington and graduating from Wilmington High School in 1955. Later that same year he moved to Montpelier, Vt., for temporary employment with the Vermont Highway Department. There he met and married the love of his life, Arreta Joyce Emch Boyd, in 1957. Bruce continued working for the Highway/Transportation Agency until his retirement in December 1995. Bruce and Arreta made their home in the Berlin/Montpelier area. Bruce enjoyed helping and watching their two children grow and become fine American citizens. He was always proud of their accomplishments. Bruce was an active member in the Montpelier Lodge of Elks #924 where he served as Exalted Ruler in 1969-1970 and as District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler, Vermont North in 1989-1990. He was also a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church and the Aurora Lodge of the Masons in Montpelier. Along with his wife, Arreta, he leaves a daughter, Glory, and her husband, Craig Kidger of Plymouth, N.H., a son Randall and his wife, Lisa Abate, and step-daughter, Miranda Abate of Enfield, Conn., a very dear nephew Gregory Boyd, and his wife, Susan of Northfield, Vt., a sister Betty Clark of Brookline, Vt., many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, a sister Nina Boyd of New Smyrna Beach, Fla., and a brother David Boyd, Jr. of Hemet, Calif. FUNERAL NOTICE: Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 28, 2008 ending with an Elks Memorial Service at 4 p.m. A Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 29, 2008 at Guare & Sons Funeral Home, 30 School Street, Montpelier. Masonic Memorial Service and burial will be held in the spring at Berlin Corners Cemetery.
