John Schaedig Family, Prussia to Crawford's Quarry, Presque Isle County, Michigan Johann Friedrich Gottlieb Schaedig was born April 8, 1840 in Rossow in the Uckermark region, Province of Brandenburg, Prussia, the first child of Johann Fredrich Gottlieb Schaedig and his wife, Marie Louise DesJardin. On March 1, 1868, he and his brother, Friedrich Willhelm, sailed from Hamburg to New York aboard the sailing vessel Eugenie, along with 139 other passengers. The two brothers spent about 2 1/2 years in Mt. Clemons, Michigan, where Johann married Louise Wilhelmina Schoenwald of Grimme/Uckermark and where this couple's first two children were born and baptized. They moved to Crawford's Quarry (Calcite), where Louise Wilhelmina died on March 15, 1872. Johann married Johanna Brege of Battin/Uckermark on August 30, 1873. They were the first couple married by the Moltke Lutheran pastor. They homesteaded land and started farming. Johann died on January 26, 1931, at the age of 90. Johanna Brege Schaedig was born October 15, 1854, and died August 21, 1934. There were three children from the first marriage: 1.
