His obituary: Died in Lincoln township, at the residence of his son, Mr. John Morgan, aged near 77 years. Mr. Morgan was one of the early settlers in Deep River township, and was beloved by all who were fortunate enough to enjoy his acquaintance. For more than forty years he was a consistent member of the Baptist Church, and there are few professed Christians in this vicinity who have not enjoyed his religious counsel and exhortations. He was ever ready to extend the sympathizing heart and hand to those in sorrow and affliction. The writer has enjoyed his companionship in a great degree, and many of his pleasant conversations will be remembered while reason retains her away. Truly "a good man has fallen:--has gone down to the grave as "a shock of corn fully ripe in its season." For several weeks before his death he was satisfied that he could not recover; was perfectly reconciled and anxiously awaited the hour of dissolution. His remains were deposited in Deep River cemetery, followed by a large concourse of friends and acquaintances. Funeral exercises were conducted by Rev. S.P. Miller at the German Baptist church. Mr. Morgan leaves a large family of children who are widely scattered, besides his widow and numerous grandchildren." Source: The Grinnell Herald; Friday, June 9, 1882
