      Dr. Egbert McKenzie Eidson was born on 11-Nov-1915 at Centerville, Yell County, Arkansas. He was the son of Roy Elmer Eidson and Verna McKenzie. Dr. Egbert McKenzie Eidson died on 4-Oct-2005 at Washington Regional Medical Center, Fayetteville, Washington County, Arkansas, at age 89.
     

Egbert McKenzie Eidson, 88, of Holiday Island died Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2005, at Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville.

He was born Nov. 11, 1916, in Centerville to Roy F. and Vernie McKenzie Eidson. After graduating from Dardanelle High School, Dr. Eidson received his bachelor?s degree from Oklahoma A & M College (Oklahoma State University) in 1940 and was called into military service. Transferring from the infantry to the Army Air Corps in 1941, he completed pilot training in 1942. Captain Eidson was discharged in April of 1946 after serving in North Africa, Italy and England.

While teaching at Arkansas State Teachers College, now University of Arkansas at Conway, he met and married Margaret Helen Yocum in 1948. From 1949 until 1952 he taught at Monticello A & M College. In 1952 he entered the Dental School at the University of Missouri in Kansas City. After graduating Dr. and Mrs. Eidson returned to Arkansas and shortly opened his practice in Fayetteville.

Dr. Eidson served the community of Northwest Arkansas for 30 years. During this time he was a member of the American Dental Association where he officiated as vice president in 1974 and president in 1975. He was cofounder of the Dental Health Program in the Fayetteville High Schools.

Dr. Eidson was a charter member of Sequoyah Methodist Church where he served in many capacities, including Chairman of the Board and as a Sunday School teacher. He attended and acted as a leader for Bible Study Fellowship for 10 years.

After retiring Dr. Eidson worked as a volunteer for AARP, teaching and coordinating the 55 Alive program in Northwest Arkansas for 11 years.

Dr. Eidson is survived by his wife Helen of the home in Holiday Island; a son, Roy A. Eidson and wife Evelyn of Eureka Springs; two granddaughters, Amy D. Eidson of Fayetteville and Jill A. King and husband Jason of Bellville, Ill; five sisters, Berneice Thompson and Virginia Kreig of Russellville, Hilda Gill and husband Rex of Tyronza, Irene Henry and husband E. R. of Dumas and Sara McCormack and husband James B. of Crossett.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Beard?s Funeral Chapel of Fayetteville with the Rev. Charles Armour officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Memorial Gardens. No visitation is scheduled. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Sequoyah United Methodist Church, 1910 Old Wire Rd., Fayetteville, AR 72703.
