Dora Ashurst 1904-2007

Dora H. Ashurst of Eckert died Saturday, July 14, 2007, at Horizons Care Center in Eckert. She was 102.

Mrs. Ashurst was born Dec. 17, 1904, in Eckert, to John and Cora (Adams) Hawkins. She was the oldest native of the Surface Creek valley.

She married Laurence Ashurst on May 22, 1925, in Eckert. He preceded her in death.

Mrs. Ashurst was a member of Cedaredge Community United Methodist Church, the Garden Club, Cedaredge Senior Citizens, United Methodist Women and the former Colby Club. She enjoyed gardening, reading and outdoor activities.

She is survived by a daughter, Mary Kissinger of Gresham, Ore; three sons, Bob Ashurst and Norman Ashurst, both of Cedaredge, and Ray Ashurst of Palisade; two brothers, John Hawkins of Hotchkiss, and Charlie Hawkins of Cedaredge; two sisters, Margaret McNutt of Gresham, Ore., and Esther Barrett of Cedaredge; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Ashurst was preceded in death by her husband, Laurence Ashurst; four brothers, Bruce Hawkins, Floyd Hawkins, Roy Hawkins and Kenneth Hawkins; and four sisters, Helen Pater, Hazel Frey, May Cotten and Ruth Rowell.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, July 18, at 10 a.m. at Cedaredge Community United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Cedaredge Cemetery.

I have heretofore made certain deeds of conveyance for certain grantees named in said deeds, which respective deeds have been placed in escrow and are to be delivered to the said respective grantees at my death. I do now hereby confirm and approve any or all of such deeds that may remain unrevoked by me at the time of my death, and I now will and devise the real estate described in such respective unrevoked deeds to the respective grantees named therein.

Item 3. I will and direct that all the residue of my property, both real and personal, remaining after complying with items one and two of this will, shall by reduced to cash by my Executor, hereinafter named.

Item 4. I will and direct that all my just debts, funeral expenses and the expenses of the administration of my estate, be paid by my Executor, hereinafter named, as soon as the same can be done, from any funds of my estate available for such purposes.

Item 5. I will, devise and bequeath all the residue of my property, remaining after complying with items one, two and four of this will, and which has been reduced to cash by the terms of item three of this will, to my son Bernard F. Randolph and my daughter Delores Randolph, share and share alike and in equal proportions, the same to be their sole and absolute property.

DR. RANDOLPH DIES AT HOME

Prominent Waldron Physician Succumbs; Funeral Saturday

Dr. Daniel F. Randolph, prominent Waldron physician, died Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. at his home. Death was caused by a heart ailment.

Dr. Randolph had been a resident of Waldron for the past forty-five years and practiced medicine there for twenty-five years, before his retirement twenty years ago. He was exceedingly prominent in all civic affairs of the community. The deceased was a charter member of the Waldron Baptist church and had been a Mason and Odd Fellow for fifty years.

BORN IN SPENCER

He was born at Spencer on March 27, 1853, the son of Mr. and Mrs. David Randolph, and was eighty-five years, three months and nineteen days old at the time of death.

Dr. Randolph was twice married. He was united with Alice Conover and to this union a son, Dr. Bernard Randolph, of this city was born. Mrs. Randolph died in 1922. The deceased was married in 1925 to Mrs. Clara Larrimore, who died in 1924. Survivors besides the son are an adopted daughter, Miss Delores Randolph, at home, and two sisters, Mrs. Louisa Bell, of Battle Creek, Michigan, and Mrs. Elizabeth Carahoof, of Cincinnati.

FUNERAL SATURDAY

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at the Waldron Baptist church, with the Rev. D. C. Rowlette, pastor, assisted by the Rev. S. G. Huntington. Interment in charge of Charles M. Ewing will be made in Forest Hill Cemetery.

Dr. Bernard Randolph Objects to Probate

Objections to probate of the will of D. F. Randolph, who died Wednesday at his home in Waldron, were filed in Shelby Circuit Court here shortly before the prominent physician's son, Dr. Bernard F. Randolph, of this city, and as a result the will can not be probated until action is taken by the court.
The objections point out that the physician has a son and an adopted daughter, Miss Delores Randolph, and charges that the will is not the last will and testament of Dr. Randolph, that he was of unsound mind and that the instrument was unduly executed.
The will bequeaths all of Dr. Randolph's household goods to the daughter and confirms deeds to certain real estate already executed and held in escrow until the death of the physician. It directs delivery of the deeds to the grantees. The remainder of the property, according to the will, is to be reduced to cash and, after the payment of all debts, is to be divided equally between the son and daughter.
The will executed April 20, 1938, names Virgil L. Roberts as executor. It was witnesses by Dale S. Rafferty and M. O. Sullivan.
Claude R. Henry and Adams and Brunner represented the younger Dr. Randolph in the filing of the objections.

JUDY KELL

Judy Marie Kell, 80, of Maud, Texas, died Thursday, Sept. 2, 2004, at her home.

Mrs. Kell was born Feb. 15, 1924, in Paragould, Ark. She was a homemaker, a member of Maud First Baptist Church and the Ladies Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy M. Kell; and a daughter, Jean McGuire.

Survivors include two daughters, Janie Hargadine of Broken Bow, Okla., and Jackie Butler of Maud; four sons, George Kell of Wake Village, Texas, Garry Kell of Maud, Roy Kell Jr. of Mount Holly, Ark., and Ronnie Kell of Dry Prong, La; one brother, Bill Dollar of Paragould; 37 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Chapelwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Tim Brown officiating. Burial will be in Center Ridge Cemetery.

Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Texarkana or to the Maud First Baptist Church Building Fund.

The family will be at the home of Jackie and Dwight Butler, 340 Maple St., Maud.

PARAGOULD -- Willlie Stanford Dollars, 88, of Paragould died Saturday, Feb. 24, 2007, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.

Born May 10, 1918, in Bono, he was retired from General Motors in Flint, Mich., was an Army veteran of World War II and was of the Pentecostal faith.

He is survived by two sons, Bill Dollars of Lafe and Jesse Dollars and his wife Mary of Paragould; four daughters, June Burns and her husband Ben of Paragould, Judy Fletcher and her husband Tommy of Madisonville, Ky., Dora Whitman of Paragould and Sandy Scott and her husband Terry of Madisonville, Ky; 22 grandchildren; and 34 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Nora Dollars; his wife, Jimmie Dee Dollars; two brothers, Donnie and Wilburn; and four sisters, Reba, Emma, Judy and Rose.

Graveside funeral services and burial will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Croft Cemetery under direction of Mitchell Funeral Home with the Rev. David Tribble officiating. Visitation will be today from 6-9 p.m.
