Joseph Corbett
Joseph Corbet was born in Kirkmichael, Ayrshire, Scotland about 1834 to James Corbet and Susan Hewitt. He emigrated to Ontario, Canada in 1856 with his brother John. He married Barbara Brown October 18, 1859 in the Scotch Church, Galt, Ontario. He received a free grant of land in Bentinck Twp., Grey County, Ontario in 1861. Joseph and Barbara raised nine children in Bentinck Twp., they sold their farm about 1904 to a nephew, Alfred Corbett. Joseph was an expert in the growing and grafting of apples, the orchard he left on the farm in Bentinck burned in the 1930's. They moved in 1904 to Gravenhurst, Ontario, Barbara died in Gravenhurst on June 22, 1905. Joseph died three years later in Gravenhurst on February 13, 1908. They are both buried in the Durham Cemetery in Bentinck Twp., Grey County, Ontario.
