Strabane Morning Post, Tuesday June 16 1835

MR JOHN FYFFE

Our Readers will perceive, in another part of this day’s paper, an Address which was presented to Mr Fyffe at Liggartown, on Friday last, by a Deputation from Strabane and Newtownstewart, accompanied by a very elegant Silver Jug and Stand, as a testimony of the esteem in which he has been held, during a residence amongst us, of twenty-two years, as Land Steward of the Marquis of Abercorn. We have never experienced greater pleasure in recording the merits of an individual, as none, we believe, ever possessed more highly all the qualities expressed by the inscription, so tastefully engraven on the Jug, and of which the following is a copy : ....

PRESENTED TO MR. JOHN FYFFE, BY

An extensive circle of Friends and Acquaintances, in Newtownstewart, Strabane, and their Vicinities, as a trifling Testimony of Esteem, for the Integrity of Conduct, Amiability of Disposition, and Professional Intelligence by which he has ever been characterized since he came to this Country, and which a residence of upwards of Twenty-two Years has afforded ample means of Estimating

May 28 1835

To Mr. JOHN FYFFE

DEAR SIR,

We, the Undersigned, having heard, with unfeigned regret, of your departure from Baronscourt, cannot permit you to leave the situation, which you have so long filled there, with credit to yourself, and general advantage to the neighbour- hood, without expressing the respect in which we hold your character -- our estimation of your mild and unassuming manners - and of the strict integrity which has ever characterised your transactions among us.

We request your acceptance of the Piece of Plate, with which this is accompanied, as a trifling testimony of our respect and esteem; and beg Dear Sir, to assure you of our best wishes for your future happiness and welfare.
