Bidie Elma Hendry, daughter of James Madison Hendry and Martha Frances Wingate, was born October 24, 1908, New Zion community Ona, Florida. On March 28, 1928, she married Harry Huyler Phillips, born November 26, 1907, Manatee County, Florida, son of Samuel Phillips and Mary Bryant.
Harry was a carpenter. He was a deacon and chairman of the building committee of Bethany Baptist Church, Myakka City, Florida, of which Bidie also was a member. They lived at 1504 13th Crt. West, Palmetto, Florida. In February 1986, due to the ill health (cancer) of Harry, they moved to live with their daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Delano Harris, at 111 Graysmoke Loop, Cataula, GA. Harry H. Phillips died August 31, 1986, Columbus, Georgia. Bidie was confined to a nursing homeat Columbus, Georgia at her death on October 2, 1998. They are buried in Bethany Cemetery, Myakka City, Manatee County, Florida.
They had the following children:
1. Ina Joyce Phillips, born May 20, 1929; married on July 20, 1946 Norman Howard Proveaux.
2. Floyd Henry Phillips, born Oct. 12, 1931; married (1) Sharon D. Post; divorced; (2) Ruth Ann Harper; divorced; (3) Patricia Ann Powell.
3. Glen Edward Phillips, born Aug. 23, 1933; died Dec. 2, 1999, Myakka City, FL; buried Bethany Cemetery; married (1) Juline North; divorced; (2) June 8, 1957 Brenda Louise Grant; divorced; (3) Linda Johnson; divorced ca. May 1982; (4) Nov 1982 Ginger _______.
4. Claude Dale Phillips, born March 13, 1935; married on Aug. 5, 1955 Karen Sue Taylor.
5. Jerry Ray Phillips, born July 26, 1936; married (1) on April 8, 1955 Betty Florence Grant; divorced; (2) July 16, 1965 Kay _____, divorced; (3) Gloria _____; divorced; (4) Donna ______.
6. Sharon Ruth Phillips, born Nov. 16, 1938; married William Delano Harris.
