Light Family Direct Line to Roger Cramer

There are published records showing that immigrant John Light arrived September 5, 1738, among 252 imported Palatines, on the ship "Winter Galley" from Rotterdam with four children, however, according to Ogle Co., IL records I found, he arrived August 30, 1737. Published records state he was born in 1682 in either Switzerland or Germany. He owned a tract of land on Quitapahilla on December 29, 1738 in Lebanon Twp., Lancaster Co., PA. The land is described in the deed as containing 274 acres. Apparently he died without a will and his children inherited his property equally. According to a deed the children sold their portions to brother Jacob. Somehow the land comes into the hands of Henry, brother of Jacob, since the land is conveyed to the children of Henry by their father's will dated April 7, 1803 and completed on May 18, 1807. These two transactions establish the children of John (Johannes) along with their spouses names, as well as the children of Henry and their spouses.

Records found in Ogle Co., IL:

John O. Light, my 2nd great grandfather's Ogle Co., IL obituary from 1901 states that the first known ancestor of the Light family, John Peter Light, a native of Germany, came to this country in 1737, locating in Lancaster Co., PA.

The "Ogle Co., IL Biographical History Book" published in 1878 states John Light's great grandfather, John Peter Light came from Germany to Lebanon Co., PA arriving August 30, 1737.

The "Portrait and Biographical Album of Ogle Co., IL" published in 1886 has a biography of Henry S. Light, son of John Light who came to Ogle Co. in 1837. It states "the first known ancestor of the Light family to locate in the United States was John Peter Light, a native of Germany, who came to this country in 1737, locating in Lancaster Co., PA"

The Leaf River, Ogle Co., IL 100th Anniversary Book published in 1982 states that "John Peter Light, native of Germany and the first known ancestor of the Light family in America, came to Lancaster (Lebanon) Co., PA on August 30, 1737".
