Elk Grove, WI, USA - Cemetery Transcriptions

Elk Grove Cemetery, Wisconsin, USA

[Home]

I live in Wisconsin and near where I was raised are some old cemeteries where many Cornish folk are buried.

This is a photo of where Fort DeSeelhorst once stood.  At the left you see a telephone pole and behind the pole is a tree, there is another big tree to the right of that, between these two trees, way, way behind on top of the field, in the background, is where the McNett East and McNett West cemeteries are located.

This land at first belong to Justus DeSEELHORST, he was a Sheriff at that time (it was Michigan territory, Wisconsin didn't exist yet) , but sold it to the McNett.  Most of the DeSeelhorst went west to Eldora, Iowa where my gggrandfather move to.  The McNett who bought the land were from the McNAUCHTON lineage from Scotland.  Their line had a castle in Scotland, and one of their descendents Samuel Eli McNETT was given a Sword of Honor, a sword worn by Gen. Jacob Brown, in the 1812 War.  He was given the position of Light House Keeper at Sackett's Harbor.  L. D. (Lorenzo Dow) McNETT, who is buried in the Elk Grove Cemetery, was one of his children.

Here is my transcription of most of the grave stones from the cemeteries in the Elk Grove area:
