BACK TO GREENWOOD CEMETERY

These photographs were taken thoughout the cemetery.  Click on a picture to enlarge it.

There is a beautiful new entrance to the cemetery which was completed this year.  I don't have a picture for that yet but here is a before picture. This was taken at the corner of Stoner & Market just west of the main entrance.

CSA Section

I have several pictures here of the confederate monument donated by  Captain Pete Youree, veteran of the CSA, including the inscriptions on all four sides.

The inscriptions on the four sides of the memorial:

This stone is raised as a tribute of love and loyalty to his old comrades in arms by Pete Youree, Capt. Commanding Co. I, Slaybacks Regiment, Joe Shelby's Brigade, Missouri Cavalry.

Their glory shall never die; their epitaphs are written in the hearts of mankind; and wherever there is speech of noble deeds, their names shall be held in remembrance.

A folded flag, a brilliant page unrolled, a deathless song of southern chivalry.

"We care not whence they came, dear is their lifeless clay, whether unknown or known to fame, their cause and country still the same, they died and wore the gray."
