gsp George S. PARK came to Pickens County, Alabama by way of Kentucky. 1806 census, found in Hopkins County. In the 1830's he is buying land in Greene County, Alabama, next to Pickens County.
gv Griffith's Primary Valuation, 1848-1864 1857 for County Donegal. Index available. Compiled by Richard Griffith, the Commissioner of Valuation, this resource lists the prime lessee and the lessor of every property, both buildings and land, in Ireland. Under each townland or street is given a brief description of each property, with the acreage and the valuation due. It was a tax, based upon the productive capacity of the land and the rent potential of the buildings. It was initially intended to raise money for the maintenance of the poor and destitute of each parish, including the upkeep of the local workhouse. Because Griffith's Valuation was taken about one generation after the Tithe Applotment (1828-1838), where the same family is found for the same townland in both records, it suggests a possible link. As married women did not have property rights in the 1800s, any woman named was either a widow or a spinster (never married). This survey serves as a default for the 1851 national census, which no longer exists.
jp James PARK's will states: 18 Feb 1828, will of James PARK of Union District, farmer...my wife Jane to enjoy the dwelling house, furniture, etc. and negroes (named); after the death of my wife, hand and negroes to be sold and money arising to be divided as directed: my eldest son James, a full share at his mothers death, provided he pay Joseph PARK as he has promised to do; Joseph a second son, a full share; George a third son, a full share; Jane, a full share, deducting $700 her husband has given his note to me with interest; Ephraim, a son, a full share; my friends, Joseph GUION(?), Andrew LEIPER, Executors. "The marriage of James KLINK to Mary CULBERTSON took place in Columbia, October 12, 1912. Her father was David Johnston CULBERTSON, born February 2, 1853 from Scott County, Virginia. David lived with his uncle & aunt, the Livingston CULBERTSONs of Rich Hill, Bates County, Missouri. Livingston CULBERTSON was a prominent farmer, founder of the town of Rich Hill. After 10 years David came to Huntsville, about 1885. There he married Cordelia SKAGGS, d/o W.C.W. SKAGGS of Huntsville. Cordelia SKAGGS CULBERTSON was born March 25, 1871 and died July 17, 1902. Mary KLINK's paternal grandparents were Reverend Ira CULBERTSON & Mary Catherine MATNEY of Scott County, Virginia." [p. 86]
--------------
"The CULBERTSON descent is from a distinguished American patriot family. Mary KLINK traces her ancestry to Andrew CULBERTSON(sic), landowner of Augusta County, Virginia in 1753. The family came to America from Londonderry, Ireland. They settled in Kennet Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania. This is established by tax records & wills proved. Her ancestor(sic), Andrew CULBERTSON, died in 1749, a wealthy landowner of the Cumberland Valley. Still earlier, c. 1665, the family had entered from Scotland into Ireland, giving her a Scots-Irish record."
--------------
"Mary KLINK's sister, Susanna CULBERTSON married George JACKSON on July 25, 1912. George JACKSON was born August 6, 1890, and died November 23, 1968. He was son of Eugene and Ella JACKSON, & the grandson of Judge Burkhart & wife of Huntsville. George's widow lived in Baldwin Park, California".
--------------
"Mary & Susanna's father left the family in their childhood. Their mother died when they were young girls. The John Phillip KLINKs took Mary into their family, and later she married the bachelor KLINK son in 1912."
--------------
"Mary continued to live in the old KLINK home after her husband's death until her departure for California to live with her sister a few years ago."
