"W" CULBERTSON FAMILIES OF IRELAND

William CULBERTSON; (b.c. 1654, Scotland fg or b.c. 1670, Scotland; d. CULBERTSON's Row, County Antrim, Ireland fg); m. ? (b.c. 1668, Darby, County Kerry, Ireland fg); c. 1665-1687, emigrated from Scotland to County Derry, near Londonderry, Ireland lrc. A brother settled in Omagh, County Tyrone, Ireland, and another brother settled at Ballygan, near Ballymoney, County Antrim, Ireland lrc. The Ballygan settlement was called "Culbertson's Row" lrc. These three brothers were Scotch Covenanters, who were driven from Scotland during the reign of James II, King of England lrc. William was a defender at the siege of Londonderry in 1688, and he also fought for William of Orange at the Battle of the Boyne in 1690 lrc. His sons emigrated to Chester County, Pennsylvania, beginning in 1712 lrc. See William CULBERTSON

"WHEREAS we the Subscribers hereof, Inhabitants of the Parish of Dunachy, in the Barony of Kilconway and County of Antrim, having the utmost Detestation and Abhorrence of the late and present unlawful and audacious Risings of disorderly and infatuated Persons, in this and several other Parts of this Country, to the terror of his Majesty's peaceable and loyal Subjects, the Destruction of Property, and Danger to Life; and believing the most effectual Means to suppress and quell the same, is by an Association of well-affected People. Now, we therefore solemnly promise, and mutually pledge our Faith to one another, that in every case where any one may be attacked within the said Parish by such disorderly Persons, in the Manner they have lately practised; we will, as far as in our Power lies, assemble ourselves, and at the Risque and Hazard of our Lives, repel Force by Force, for the Preservation of their and our Lives and Properties, the Peace and Harmony of loyal Subjects, and the reestablishing of Good Order, and bringing Delinquents to Justice. Dated this 6th Day of March, 1772."
