bn1 The Belfast Newsletter, 17 Mar 1772, p. 2.&nbps; One of the many subscribers listed in a public notice with the following preamble:
"WHEREAS we the Subscribers hereof, Inhabitants of the Parish of Dunachy, in the Barony of Kilconway and County of Antrim, having the utmost Detestation and Abhorrence of the late and present unlawful and audacious Risings of disorderly and infatuated Persons, in this and several other Parts of this Country, to the terror of his Majesty's peaceable and loyal Subjects, the Destruction of Property, and Danger to Life; and believing the most effectual Means to suppress and quell the same, is by an Association of well-affected People. Now, we therefore solemnly promise, and mutually pledge our Faith to one another, that in every case where any one may be attacked within the said Parish by such disorderly Persons, in the Manner they have lately practised; we will, as far as in our Power lies, assemble ourselves, and at the Risque and Hazard of our Lives, repel Force by Force, for the Preservation of their and our Lives and Properties, the Peace and Harmony of loyal Subjects, and the reestablishing of Good Order, and bringing Delinquents to Justice.
