He was working on his parents' farm in Little Coharie Township in 1870 and on their farm in sevety-First Township in 1880. He and his wife are listed in the 1900 Census of Seventy-First Township, Newton's Precinct with seven children and in the 1910 Census of the same precinct with five children. Junius decided to move to Kansas because the army came in was going to take the farm land t o create Fort Bragg. He was told by members of the Church(Seventh Day Baptists) that the far m land was rich. He took a train out there to see, saw what he liked and moved there ( prob , around 1910) to the Nortonville, Kansas area- outside of Topeka.

I was told that his wife had a very hard time adjusting to the move. My grandmother'(Jea n Meritt)s sisters and mother went to Kansas to recover from illness for a while. "June" as he was called had a tubucular hip and basicly worked himself to death. -alway s had that limp from contracting TB.

The Howards were described to me as being very fair- blonde and blue eyed from the Fayettevil le, North Carolina area.

I was also told that during the civil war the Howards buried their silver to save it f rom pillagers and it was never found or recovered.

He was working on his parents farm in Little Coharie Township in 1870 and on their far m in the sevety first township in 1880. Junius and Nancy are listed in the 1900 census of Sev enty-First Township ,Newtons Precinct with seven children and in 1910 in the same precicnt wi th 5 children.
