The History of the Clan MacLeod (Mcleod)

The McLeod's are descendants of the Royal House of Norway

and the Son of Olave the Black. From 825 AD to the present

day ( in the year 2018AD).

This spans some 36 generations and will continue as long as

the world exists as we know it.

There were many great MacLeods and Chiefs of the clan. They

invaded Normandy, Ireland and England many times during the

centuries . They fought for the preservation of Scotland

and their Kings. Upholding nobility and honor. Most of the

years were in Scotland in the isles of Man near Harris, Scotland.

A particular island, Isle of Skye is where the Dunvegan

Castle was built and the MacLeod Clan has lived for over

750 years. This is where our ancestors came from to America.

Norman MacLeod ( generation 28) was born in Glenelg,

Isle of Skye,Scotland in 1748 and died in 1781 in Richland

County, NC. He married Jennet Morrison before 1770. He was

grandmother Evans'(Mildred Jane Boone Evans) great great

grandfather.

Information from “ The Confederate and The Judge” states

that “ Among the many emigrants who left the Isle of Skye

in the year 1770 was Norman McLeod, who settled near

Fayetteville, North Carolina. He brought with him his

wife, three sons and two daughters. His sons were : Norman,

John and Roderick. A fourth son, Daniel, was born in

America. The native language was Gaelic and the girls

never learned to speak English even after coming to

America. To list all the names and information on the

different generations would be to lengthy for this book

on the Evans. I thought it important to note our heritage

through Mildred Jane Boone Evans.

I have the family history file and family tree on line at

our private family website. The information that I have

been able to locate was compiled by many researchers.

Credit should be given first to Una McLeod Hoffmann for

her book on the” History of the Norman Mcleod Family “.

State Archives , The Clan MacLeod Magazine, The Clan

MacLeod Society, Alick Morrison,” The Chiefs Of the

Clan MacLeod”, East Kilbride, Scotland, Rev. Dr. Donald

This family ties in with the Cummings family through my

mother,Mary Alice Evans(grandaughter of Mary Jane McLeod)
