West Virginia Perdue Family

West Virginia Perdue Family

My mom's family was made up of both her blood relatives and her foster parents, as illustrated by this picture. Her mother Lula Mae KIRK (maiden name PERDUE) died of TB when my mom was very young, resulting in the adopting out of the remaining children. My mom was then raised by Luther and Ruth (WEAVER) PETTRY. Ruth's sister Mildred was married to Lonnie PERDUE who was my mom's uncle.

The picture below was taken (we believe) on Easter Sunday 1946 at Longacre, West Virginia.

Standing across the back, from left to right are: Luther Pettry, Lola Morris, Cora Hobbs, Mildred Perdue, Ada Shell, Ruby Weaver, Lon Perdue, Meredith Weaver, and Lawrence Weaver

In the middle are Otto Perdue, Loretta Kirk, and James Kirk.

From the lower left are Ruth Pettry, the dog Shag, Betty Jo Spencer, Violet Spencer, Sue Ann Weaver, Raymond Weaver, Shirley Perdue, James Allen Weaver, Bobby Jack Perdue and Eugene Weaver.

This picture below is one generation back, the family of James and Thura Mae (Russell) Perdue. Thura Mae is at the far right. The other children are James Elmer, Lonnie, Charles, Rosa, Alberta and Oakie, plus a neighbor boy. This picture was taken somewhere around 1912.
