Samuel Bishop appears in A Brief History of John and Christian
Fretz: and a complete genealogical register with biographies of their descendants
from the earliest available records to the present time. With portraits and other
illustrations. by Rev. A. J. Fretz of Milton, N.J. with an introduction by
J. Freeman Hendricks, A. M. (Elkhart, Ind.: Mennonite Publishing Co., 1890).
The entry begins on page 160, and ends on page 161, and reads:

The abbreviations mean that Amanda Bishop Weisel was of the German Reformed
religion (today the United Church of Christ) while Milton Weisel was a member
of the Evangelical Association (today the United Methodist Church).
There is also a note stating that the name BISHOP was orignally spelled BISCHOFSBERGER.
Samuel was the eldest of six sons, and the fourth child of Joseph Bishop (born
11 November 1813, died 4 April 1872), by his wife Susanna Moyer. They lived in
New Britain Township, Bucks County, Pennsylvania, were Mennonites and had 11 children.
Joseph was the son of Jacob Bishop (died 15 December 1832) by his wife Anna Fretz (born
29 February 1788, died circa 1865). Anna was the third of the nine daughters of
Joseph Fretz (born 9 May 1761, in Bedminster, Bucks County, died 29 March 1806) by
his wife Maria Kraut (born 11 February 1862). Joseph was the second of the eight sons,
and third child of Christian Fretz (born 1734, died 1 May 1803) by his wife Barbara
Oberholtzer (born 20 November 1737).
Susanna Moyer, who was married to Joseph Bishop, was the daughter of Jacob O.
Meyers (born 26 March 1787, died 17 January 1858) by his wife Elizabeth Wisler
(died 11 May 1861). Jacob was the son of Isaac Meyer (born 31 December 1759,
died 31 December 1832) by his wife Magdalena Overholt (born 14 August 1862,
died 27 January 1846). Isaac was the son of Henry Meyer and Barbara Miller, Henry
being the son of the immigrant Hans Meyer, who settled in what later became Upper
Salford Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania.
