"...The Ministers (government leaders) have utilized every imaginable artifice to levy a tax upon the Colonies, and thus, break the Charter guaranteeing us liberty. A man may not be taxed and have something taken away from him without his or his own representative's consent. But during this past winter malicious Ministers have gone too far and many Parliamentary Acts were passed which infringe on our basic rights."26 He officiated at the wedding of Matthias Gerhard and Anna Yeakel on 11 February 1779.27 Rev. They were barely audible to his family.31 His funeral sermon was preached by the Rev. Christopher Hoffman. He took the text from 2nd Timothy 4: 7-8, "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith, etc." A copy of the text remained with the family.31 Rev. Christoph Scholtze was buried in Washington Schwenfelder Cemetery, Hereford Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania.2
